BELIZE

BELIZE FITS IN A WEEK. IT TAKES LONGER TO PROCESS.

Belize is smaller than Massachusetts, which creates an unusual opportunity. In most countries, choosing between a reef trip and a jungle trip means choosing between two different vacations. In Belize, it means choosing how to spend Tuesday and Wednesday. The second largest barrier reef in the world runs the entire length of the country's Caribbean coast. Thirty miles inland, the jungle begins in earnest, and it doesn't thin out until it hits the Guatemalan border.

What lives in that jungle is worth the inland detour. Jaguar populations in the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary are among the healthiest in Central America. The Maya sites here, Caracol, Xunantunich, Lamanai, receive a fraction of the traffic that comparable sites in Mexico and Guatemala attract, which means you can stand in a place of genuine historical weight without negotiating a crowd. Lamanai in particular, accessible only by river boat through a corridor of wildlife, is one of those arrivals that recalibrates your sense of where you are.

We design Belize itineraries that hold the reef and the interior in genuine balance rather than treating one as the main event and the other as a day trip. The routing matters here more than almost anywhere, and so does the sequence. Get it right and Belize builds on itself in a way that makes the whole greater than its parts.
