YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
Planning meaningful travel raises practical questions. Below are the ones we hear most often. If yours isn't here, bring it to a consultation and we'll talk through it.
PLANNING YOUR JOURNEY
How far in advance should I start planning?
Many of our journeys involve boutique lodges, seasonal access, and highly sought-after guides. To secure the best availability, we recommend beginning the planning process six to eight months in advance.
For destinations with limited capacity, such as African safaris or expedition-style journeys, twelve months or more is often advisable. For closer or more straightforward destinations, shorter timelines can still work depending on availability.
Can I adapt sample itineraries from your site?
Absolutely. The itineraries on our website are intended to spark ideas and illustrate what is possible. Every journey we design is fully customized. Destinations, accommodations, pacing, and experiences can all be adjusted to reflect your interests and travel style.
The starting point is the idea. The final itinerary is built entirely around you.
What kind of traveler are your trips best suited for?
Our trips are designed for travelers who think carefully about how they spend their time and are willing to invest in getting it right. They tend to be curious, experienced enough to know what they don't want, and looking for someone to handle the details so they can focus on the experience itself. If that sounds like you, we're probably a good fit.
What destinations do you specialize in?
Our strongest expertise is in destinations that reward depth over speed: places where slowing down reveals something the average itinerary misses. That includes Patagonia, alpine Europe, Central and South America, the Canadian Rockies, and the great wilderness areas of North America.
Beyond those core regions, we design journeys across Africa, Asia, and the polar regions through our trusted global partner network.
How do you approach sustainability & responsible travel?
It's part of how we vet every partner we work with. We prioritize properties and operators with genuine commitments to their surrounding environments and communities, and we'll always recommend the more responsible option when one exists. The places we love most are worth protecting.
What makes Peregrine different from other travel advisors?
We start with why you want to travel, not where. Our Five Whys framework shapes every journey we design, ensuring the experience is built around your intention rather than a generic template. Beyond that, we're lifelong adventurers who believe travel done right is genuinely transformative, and our Virtuoso affiliation gives clients access to properties and experiences that aren't available through standard booking channels.
Why work with a travel advisor instead of planning the trip myself?
The internet gives you access to information. It doesn't give you judgment, relationships, or accountability. We know which properties photograph better than they deliver, which guides are worth the premium, and how to sequence an itinerary so the experience builds rather than fragments. We also have access to rates, upgrades, and amenities that aren't available through direct booking. And if something goes wrong while you're on the other side of the world, you have someone to call who is already invested in fixing it.
ON THE GROUND
What types of accommodations do you book?
Through our affiliation with Virtuoso, we partner with a curated collection of boutique hotels, premier wilderness lodges, and exceptional retreats around the world. In certain destinations we may also arrange private villas or residences that meet our standards for comfort, service, and authenticity.
The accommodations we select depend on the destination, your travel style, and the experience you want to have.
Will you take care of all logistics & travel support?
Yes. We coordinate all core elements of your journey including accommodations, private transfers, guided experiences, and logistical support throughout your trip.
We can also assist with air travel arrangements; however, if you prefer to book flights independently, we simply coordinate the itinerary around your confirmed schedule.
What if something changes during my trip?
If plans need to shift due to weather, logistics, or personal needs, we work with our on-the-ground partners to adjust quickly. You won't be left navigating it alone. That's the whole point of having someone in your corner.
Can you help with travel insurance & paperwork?
Yes. We guide you through the practical details of international travel including visas, entry requirements, permits, and recommended immunizations where applicable.
We also recommend trusted travel insurance providers and can incorporate insurance options into your proposal if desired.
WORKING WITH PEREGRINE
How much does it cost to work with Peregrine?
We charge a planning fee starting at $250, scaled to the complexity of the journey. This covers the research, design, and ongoing support that goes into building a trip worth taking. It also means our focus is entirely on your experience rather than on steering you toward options that pay us the highest commission. We think that's the right way to work.
Can I build a trip that balances adventure with rest or wellness?
Many of our favorite itineraries combine active exploration with time to slow down and recharge. A day of hiking or wildlife tracking might be followed by a quiet afternoon at a remote lodge, a spa treatment, or a relaxed evening overlooking the landscape.
This balance sits at the heart of our philosophy of Adventure, Elevated.
Do you work with families?
Yes. Many of our clients travel as families (we do too!), and we design journeys that balance meaningful experiences with the right pace for each age group. We pay particular attention to pacing and age-appropriate experiences, and we're honest about which destinations and activities work well for children at different stages.
Do you plan solo travel?
Yes. We handle the practical realities of solo travel, including single supplements and properties that suit independent travelers, and we design the itinerary around the particular freedom that comes with moving through a place entirely on your own terms.
Do you only plan luxury trips?
No. We don't plan budget travel, but the defining standard for everything we design is quality and fit, not price tag. Some of our most meaningful itineraries aren't our most expensive ones. What they all share is intentional design and experiences worth the investment.
