PACIFIC FRONTIERS

COSTA RICA

This journey traces Costa Rica's untamed Pacific edge, where jungle-backed beaches, sea caves, and surf towns unfold at an unhurried pace. Designed for travelers who crave raw coastline without sacrificing comfort, it moves between two distinct bases along the Nicoya Peninsula, each with its own character and its own stretch of coast. Days are shaped by tides, light, and curiosity. Never crowds.

WHY THIS ADVENTURE

The Nicoya Peninsula feels elemental in a way that most of Costa Rica's more traveled circuits don't: salt, stone, and jungle meeting without pretense. This journey is built around immersion rather than itinerary, quiet mornings watching the tide pull back from tidepools, afternoons exploring hidden coves by boat, evenings where the horizon seems endless. Moving between two bases gives the trip a shape and a sense of progression, the coastline revealing itself in layers as you go. Private guides unlock the rhythms of each stretch of shore. The wilderness stays wild. Everything else is handled.

JOURNEY FLOW

The journey unfolds along the Nicoya Peninsula's lesser-traveled shores, opening at one base and moving to another as the week progresses, each with its own personality and its own relationship to the coast. The northern reaches around Punta Islita offer dramatic headlands, secluded coves, and a quieter pace. Nosara's Playa Guiones delivers the peninsula's most consistent surf alongside a genuine community of people who have organized their lives around the ocean. Santa Teresa, at the southern tip, is rawer still: longer beaches, stronger swell, and the particular energy of a place that hasn't quite decided whether it's been discovered yet. Days anywhere on the peninsula balance exploration with pause, guided by tides, swell, and mood rather than a fixed schedule.

HIGHLIGHTS

WAYS TO PERSONALIZE

Those who want to cover the full length of the peninsula can extend by two or three nights and add a third base, turning the journey into a proper north-to-south traverse. A private surf coaching session with a local instructor tailored to your current skill level is worth building in at whichever stop has the best conditions. For calmer water, a guided freediving or advanced snorkeling excursion offshore adds a dimension that most coastal itineraries miss entirely. And for those drawn to the Papagayo Peninsula's protected marine waters as a contrast, that extension can be arranged before or after.
